“Agricultural Decisions”

This is officially the first post of the photo challenge referenced in the previous post.

I saw a shelf filled with books titled Agricultural Decisions on the first floor of the library today when I was reading some Chaucer for class. I almost exclusively study at this table and have never noticed the wall of green that these books create. Being conscious of the photo challenge and always taking a liking to the color green, I felt this would be a good, simple entrance into the challenge. (Also I should have noted that this challenge was taken from photochallenge.org) Anyways, thinking about the photo a bit more and the word “agricultural” in a much broader sense, I came across these other potential links to the meaning of this photo. Here goes:

I am attempting to cultivate this new blog into something more productive. I am also hoping to cultivate my own photography skills and eye as a photographer through this challenge. From these last two reflections, I have become aware of the cultivating effect this will have on how I think about words and associations with words. So, I am attempting through my decision to begin a photo challenge to cultivate my blog, my photography, and, maybe unintentionally, my thoughts on words.

And then there is that “nos.” I am not sure what to do with that.

Photo Challenge 2012 (and a little of 2013)

I was turned onto the idea of a challenge or, at the very least, a source for consistent blogs, something to plan on posting daily or every few days, by The Color Lime. Before moving to WordPress I used Blipfoto as a photo journal/blog that allotted a maximum of one post per day intending for its users to follow through with a photo posted everyday. I had bouts of daily posts and then weeks and even months of nothing at points. I write all of this to explain why I chose a photo challenge. Anyway, the challenge is: choose a single color for each month of the year and during that month take a photo everyday, or consistently, that contains, relates, or represents in some fashion that color. In an effort to hold myself to a schedule for this, here are the months and my chosen colors:

February – Green

March – Yellow

April – Black

May – Blue

June – Orange

July – Brown

August – Purple

September – White

October – Red

November – Pink

December – Grey

January – Indigo (I am anticipating difficulty with this one)

And I am beginning today because February is short and I am too impatient to wait until Wednesday to start.
